Do your kids (or you) always have those little white iPod headphones plugged into your ears? Does your family think that humanly-guided tours are dorky?
Here’s some salvation; an article in the Christian Science Monitor today about MP3/audio tours that you can download and listen to as you stroll around, being an un-tourist. The two samples include Boston’s Italian-flavored North End.
Links to various audio companies are provided. I see this taking off in a big way as the libraries of destination tours grow and expand.
All’s fair in roping the kids into learning something when they travel.

Podtours (www.podtours.co.uk) is now offering a number of audio tours to European destinations – including different tours of Rome depending on whether you want to see medieval, baroque, or classical Roman sights. Florence, Pisa, Venice, Paris, Rouen, and Chartres cathedral are joined by a number of the English cathedrals and the medieval trading cities of Bruges and Ghent in Belgium.
I suspect the days of the ‘guy with the umbrella’ could be numbered. I’ll never take a guided tour again because at only 5 foot 4, there’s always someone taller in front of me!
Thanks, Andrea, I decided to put up a short post today about audio tours and your company.
Thanks for stopping by!
