Check out the Volcano National Park! We went on an island tour which included the volcano. We thoroughly enjoyed the cycle ride down the volcano and the helicopter trip over the rain-forest. The drive to Hana was long and a bit disappointing. Scenery on both islands was outstanding.

I used to work in Volcano, right off of Kilauea base. If the family members in question are of age (or somewhat close), there’s a little bar on base called the Lava Lounge. Karaoke nights used to be Tuesdays and had some great locals, but that was a long time ago, so things might have changed around.

I’m not military, but on a sailing excursion up the Na Pali Coast, we passed by the Barking Sands Beach Cottages on Kauai. I stood at the railing envying those who get to stay there. Yes, it’s isolated but what a beautiful setting for rest and relaxation. I’m glad that the military provides vacation destinations for those who serve our country.
