THIS is why you take children to Hawaii

Surfing in front of Oahu's Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach, Hawaii (photo by Waikiki Beach Services)Thank you, Don “Lips” Fujiyama and Aaron Char from Waikiki Beach Services….

They worked patiently  with my 9-year-old son one morning to get him upright on a surfboard.

He’s still talking about it.

He won’t take off his black Waikiki Beach Services protective surf shirt (that thing could stand up on its own in a corner by now, it’s so salty and grimy.)

He wants to go back to the islands and surf again, and I’m already trying to figure out how to get us there.

That’s what a visit to the islands is all about, bruddah!

Just So You Know Disclaimer:  The state Hawaii Tourism Authority through Cilantro Media paid my way to Hawaii for the So Much More Hawaii bloggers tour, and also paid most of my expenses while I was there.

Coolest tourist picture, ever! I wish we were going to be able to get back this summer but it doesn’t look like it will happen this year.

I knew he can do it – yey!

Yes, time to save for your next FAMILY VACATION TO HAWAII – Maui included :) – We’ve got a surf board waiting for your son and daughter. Actually, all of you can do it – I know you can! :)

What a great shot of your keiki! So glad you came and had such a wonderful experience in our islands. Next time, don’t miss Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor. There’s something for everyone at our place. And I’ll be glad to be your host and guide. We have combat flight simulators to fly. A Restoration Hangar that’s still in battlefield condition with strafe bullet holes in the windows. There, you’ll see planes being restored and even shoot a rivet like “Rosie the Riveter.” Hangar 37 is filled with movies, videos and planes, planes, planes. It’s a great family place with a 1940s themed restaurant, Museum Store and more.
Aloha

Thanks for all of the nice comments and aloha from my readers (and yes, Anne, we wish we’d had time for the Pacific Aviation Museum – next visit for sure!)

Hi Kara/MountainMama – No, I didn’t surf myself, but I should have (or taken standup paddleboard lessons, which I understand from Mr. Fujiyama is a terrific core workout.)

Awesome pic, and what a great experience for him. I have a nine-year-old son so had to lol at the comment about the surf shirt. I can relate to that (salt and grime and all)!
